Hakkoda - Snow cams

Hakkoda Ski Resort is situated in the Aomori Prefecture of northern Japan. The drive to Hakkoda takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours from Aomori Airport depending on the route and weather conditions.

Hakkoda’s ski season typically runs from mid-December until mid-May depending on snow and weather conditions.

The snow in Hakkoda is real and called “Snow Monsters”. The Snow Monsters are produced when water droplets carried by strong seasonal winds clash with the evergreens and freeze in place to create unique shapes. There are only a select few mountains in Japan that have the unique climatic conditions necessary to produce these Snow Monsters, and Hakkoda is one of the best among them.

Hakkoda is renowned for its challenging backcountry terrain and deep powder snow, making it a prime destination for experienced skiers and snowboarders seeking an adventurous snow experience. Beginners might find the conditions and slopes less suitable for their skill level.

Reaching Hakkoda has become more convenient thanks to the introduction of a new high-speed bullet train that covers the journey from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori in approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. From Shin-Aomori Station, you have the option of a 45-minute drive to the Sanroku Ropeway Station, located at the foot of the Hakkoda ski area, or a 60-minute bus ride.
