NORTH ISLAND. Raukumara to Whirinaki Forest Parks: Clear today, with scattered showers tomorrow evening. Egmont and Tongariro National Parks, also Kaimanawa to Ruahine Forest Parks: Mostly clear, evening clouds from Egmont to Tongariro National Parks, and northwards tomorrow. Tararua ranges Clear today, with some clouds and isolated showers tomorrow afternoon. WINDS: Calming southwesterlies tonight, shifting to northerlies tomorrow.

SOUTH ISLAND. Fiordland: Showers, snow at 1100 meters. Rest of the areas: Clear. Increasing clouds in the west tomorrow with a few showers and snow at 1100 meters in Mount Aspiring. WINDS: Westerlies, strong near and south of Mt Aspiring, becoming gale or severe gale northwesterly in the south tomorrow afternoon.

Thursday, 31 August

NORTH ISLAND. Partly cloudy with scattered showers, clearing in the evening. Snow at 1500 meters temporarily. WINDS: Strong northwesterlies around the Tararuas.

SOUTH ISLAND. A few showers in the west, rain in Fiordland and Mount Aspiring, snow at 1100 meters initially. High clouds elsewhere. WINDS: Northwesterlies, gale in exposed areas.

Friday, 1 September

NORTH ISLAND Mostly clear, with a few showers in the Tararua ranges. WINDS: Strong northwesterlies around the Tararuas.

SOUTH ISLAND. A few showers in the west, clearing north of Arthur’s Pass. Rain in Fiordland and Mount Aspiring, heavy falls developing, snow at 1300 meters initially. High clouds elsewhere. WINDS: Northwesterlies, gale in exposed areas, easing later.

NORTH ISLAND. Clear. WINDS: Light.

SOUTH ISLAND Clear. WINDS: Light.
