North Island
In Egmont and Tongariro National Parks, along with Tararua Forest Park, expect showers transitioning into overnight rain, briefly with heavy downpours and snowfall up to 1800 meters. Tomorrow afternoon, the weather will clear up. Other mountain areas in the North Island will experience cloudy conditions with occasional showers, clearing in the evening. Winds will start from the northwest, potentially reaching gale force in exposed areas, and shift to southerly tomorrow afternoon and evening.
South Island
Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks, as well as the Kaikoura ranges, can expect a few showers, turning into rain this afternoon and evening with heavy precipitation and snowfall down to 2000 meters. Tomorrow afternoon, it will be fine. In the Southern Alps to Fiordland, anticipate periods of rain with heavy falls, possible thunderstorms, and snowfall down to 1200 meters tonight. Rain will ease to a few showers tomorrow afternoon. Strong northwest gales, potentially severe in exposed areas, will become strong to gale force from the west tomorrow.
September 8
North Island
Expect a few light showers around the Raukumara ranges, with otherwise fine weather prevailing. Winds will be light.
South Island
Partly cloudy conditions with a few showers in Fiordland National Park and fine weather in the east. Southwesterly winds will turn westerly, becoming strong in exposed areas in Fiordland.
September 9
North Island
Anticipate a few light showers in Raukumara Forest Park, otherwise fine conditions with light winds. Northerly winds will develop later.
Freezing Level: The freezing level will be at 2600 meters.
South Island
Fine weather initially but becoming cloudy with a few showers developing in Fiordland and Mt Aspiring National Park later. Winds will turn northwesterly, potentially reaching gale force in Fiordland and Mt Aspiring National Parks.
September 10
North Island
Showers will develop with north-westerly winds becoming strong, potentially reaching gale force in Tararua Forest Park.
South Island
Expect rain with heavy falls and snow lowering to 1000 meters in the south. Severe gale northwesterly winds will ease later.
